Ever thought of getting married the Maharaja style? Those big palaces, which had been the testimony of various grand marriages in the past, can serve as your wedding venue now.

Rajasthan has become a land of weddings, where every year, many engaged couples, book some or the other palace, of great magnificence, for their wedding ceremony.

The Indian wedding tradition

Indian wedding involves numerous traditions. Such is the spirit of Indian wedding that the pre wedding ceremonies continue for weeks. Indian wedding is one of the most colorful weddings of the world, from beautiful and colorful clothes to expensive ornaments, the weddings in Indian tradition is a big affair.

The Indian brides, on the day of wedding, are decorated and adorned, so beautiful they look that it seems that they come from heaven itself. Wearing a red colored lehanga or sari is considered auspicious on that day.

Role of family and close friends holds major significance in these weddings. They stay at the house of the bride or the groom till the wedding gets over, relishing the Indian foods, dances and many rituals.

The mandapa, where the marriage rituals actually take place is decorated with flowers, banana leaves, rice, and coconut with the havan kund in between where the fire is ignited. It is around this fire that the couple takes seven rounds to symbolize their being together for seven birth cycles. Though the Indian wedding ceremony is long, but every mantra holds some divine meaning. Women are made to wear, a long black thread, mangalsutra, symbolizing the union of two people till eternity.

Wedding in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has two major wedding hubs, Udaipur and Jaipur. Both these places have phenomenal palaces, not one but many. Many of these many palaces have been transformed to some big and luxurious hotels.

The wedding at these palaces will not only be a lifetime memory for the couples, but also a remarkable experience for the family and friends of the bride and the groom. From cultural dances to tasty Indian cuisine, for the family and friends of the couple, there will be a lot to enjoy. Long marriage procession, where the groom travels on horse and the bride in doli and the relatives on the back of camels, marriage in Rajasthan will make you feel not less than the Maharajas.

Major wedding palaces in Rajasthan

Jagmandir Island Palace:
This palace was built by Maharaja Karan Singh in 1622. The basic motive behind building this palace was to make it a center for hosting parties. Now days, this palace is a wonderfully designed palace with marble pillars used for banquets and weddings.

Rambagh Palace:
Built in 1835, Rambagh Palace initially was a guest house. It was later that it was converted to the palace of Maharaja of Jaipur. It is also called 'Jewel of Jaipur,' and in 1957 Maharaja Sawai Mann Singh II converted it into a luxurious hotel. Now this palace comes under Taj group of hotels. This wonderful palace gives its guest a feel of royalty, with every portion of the Palace speaking volumes of its history.

Umaid Bhavan:
Built on the Chittor Hill, Umaid Palace is the last palace of grandeur and triumph, built in India and is also one of the largest residences in the world, occupying an area of 26 acres. Built in 1943, this palace is divided into three major halves; one being a five star hotel, one being the residence of the present Maharaja and one being a museum. Designed by Edwardian architecture, Henry Lanchster, this Palace had been the venue for many celebrity weddings in the past.

Mehrangarh Fort:
It is one of the largest forts in India and was founded by Rao Jodha in 1459. Battle scars can still be seen on the gates of the fort. This fort comprises of various palaces having one of the most amazing courtyards. The most marvelous Mahal is the Pearl Mahal which has the Srinagar Chowki, delicately designed stone screen and the royal throne of Jodhpur. Getting married in any one of the palaces of this fort is like a dream come true.

Raj palace:
This palace was built in 1728 by Thakur Mohan Singhji. It has been a favorite palace of kings, from Aurangzeb to many British dignitaries; it has been loved by all. The most remarkable feature of this palace is that it has been capable of restoring to its old glory and charm, till today.

Taj Lake palace:
Situated in midst of Lake Pichola, Taj Lake Palace, is completely made up of white marbles. The palace looks magnificent when seen in the moonlit night. This palace was built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II. The lily pond and spa garden are major attraction of the palace, an ultimate place to plan your wedding.
