Hotels In Darjeeling
The word Darjeeling is the combination of two words. The word Dorje means 'thunderbolt', and ling means 'place.' A beautiful hill station in itself, the place was an escort for Britishers, during colonial rule, from the scorching heat of the sun. The East India Company negotiated with the Rajah of Sikkim for the cessation of the hill either for an equivalent in money or land.
Slowly the city started being developed by the Britishers. They built roads and trains and the most importantly tea plantations. Tiger hill is the highest peak in the town and one can see the exotic view of the Kanchenjunga peaks from its hill top.
The most attractive feature of this serene town is that one can travel to this hilly area on a toy train, which cuts across the hills and terrains, leaving people with one of the most spectacular view. To cover a distance of 82 kms it takes around 6 to 7 hours. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is amongst the UNESCO's World Heritage Site.
So want to view the hidden beauty of India, definitely plan a trip to this beautiful place.
