The second largest city of India and the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, the city of Bhopal was founded by King Bhoj around 1055 B.C. But with the passage of time the city scattered into the dust of obscurity. It was later that Dost Mohammad Khan re founded the city, bringing almost all the architecture in the city, Islamic style. Later this city was ruled by four Begums, right from 1819 to 1926.

The most prominent feature of the city is its lakes, natural as well as man made; which are huge in number. Though, the place also has a number of mosques, including the famous Taj-ul-Masjid; there is also a local safari park named Van Vihar.
